Petition to House of Representatives calls for clear preconditions and space for nurseries
LTO Nederland and Royal Anthos have submitted the petition](https://www.ltobomenenvasteplanten.nl/content/petitie_LTO_Bomen_en_Royal_Anthos.pdf]petition) 'Vision Trees, Perennials and Summer Flowers 2045' to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO). The core message is that green infrastructure is essential for a healthy and climate-resilient living environment and must be included from the very start in construction and spatial development plans.

According to the authors, the importance of green infrastructure is widely acknowledged, but in practice it is still too often addressed at a late stage. 'Green must be a precondition in area development, not an afterthought,' says Erik Stuurbrink, chair of LTO Trees, Perennials and Summer Flowers. He notes that this regularly goes wrong in new housing developments and the redesign of public space.

Space for the supply of green
The vision also stresses the importance of sufficient space for tree nurseries and other growers. 'If municipalities and contractors are required to apply more green, that green must be available,' Stuurbrink states. According to him, that space is under pressure due to fragmented policies. Provinces and municipalities each apply their own rules, making it difficult for companies to invest and plan ahead.
Direction-setting, not a fixed plan
The vision for 2045 is intended as a working document. '2045 is still far away. This is a point on the horizon,' says Stuurbrink. The sector aims to evaluate progress regularly and adjust the vision where necessary, together with other stakeholders.
Call for consistent policy
With the accompanying petition, LTO Nederland and Royal Anthos call on the government to structurally include green infrastructure as a precondition, safeguard space for nurseries and ensure consistent, long-term policy. According to the sector, this is necessary to realise green ambitions in cities and towns.
