In the final weekend of Keukenhof, the colorful submission by JUB Holland, designed by Carien van Boxtel, is on display. The title "A Mysterious Dutch Still Life" is inspired by the 17th-century still lifes of Willem van Aelst. The mix will be brought to market by JUB this coming autumn.
As one of the first participants in Keukenhof, JUB aims to stand out with their vision on planting. Robbert Uittenbogaard, director of JUB Holland, explains: "Here we not only showcase our newest mixes but also demonstrate how flower bulb designs can be artistic, thoughtful, and visually appealing in public spaces."
With this design, they aim to draw more attention to the craft of planting. The knowledge that JUB Holland gains from this will be translated into practical mixes for public green spaces.

Diverse Color Palette
Carien van Boxtel, the regular designer of the JUB border since 2019 and recently appointed RHS Bulb Expert, created this year's design using colors like deep red, gold, yellow, and porcelain white. These are combined with dark-hued tulips such as 'Sarah Raven', 'Queen Rania', as well as Tulipa acuminata, 'Rem's Favourite', and Narcissus poeticus recurvus. According to Van Boxtel, these choices are meant to evoke the drama of 17th-century Dutch painting.
According to Uittenbogaard, a good bulb mix starts with good flowering, but that's not all. "It only ends when everything is right: the rhythm in the landscape, the maintenance, the biodiversity. We see that the story behind the design—the color scheme, bloom timing, cultural-historical theme—really resonates with landscape architects, municipalities, and green managers."
Commercial Availability
After the presentation at Keukenhof, which runs until 11 May, JUB's designs will also become commercially available. Right next to "A Mysterious Dutch Still Life," the Bulb Mania Mix can be admired for the second time, a joint development by JUB and Rijnbeek Perennials.
Behind the scenes, preparations for a new theme have already begun, reports JUB Holland.
