International partners combine expertise and distribution networks for the storage and charging of lithium-ion batteries
Battery-powered equipment has rapidly become the standard in professional green space maintenance. This has also increased the need for safe solutions for charging and storing lithium-ion batteries. STIHL Benelux and Asecos are responding with a European partnership that combines the expertise of both companies to offer a complete range of fire-resistant safety cabinets for professional users. The solutions will soon be available directly to landscapers, green space contractors and other green professionals through STIHL's existing dealer network.

Working with electric equipment has become commonplace for many green sector businesses. While the initial focus was mainly on the machines themselves, attention is increasingly shifting to the practical aspects of using them. How much electricity do you need each day? How much energy is required to get through a full working day? How can batteries be charged safely? Where should they be stored? And how do you comply with constantly evolving regulations? According to Tommy Nagtegaal, Professional Market Manager, this is precisely why STIHL looks beyond simply supplying machines. 'We know what matters to our customers: delivering high-quality work quickly, sustainably and efficiently, while staying within budget. Whether it involves machines, energy management or financing, we help them achieve this. With innovative battery-powered equipment and smart, safe charging solutions.'

'We don't just want to sell customers a battery-powered machine; we also want to make sure they can use it safely and practically'

From individual machines to complete solutions
'We have increasingly become a business partner for our professional users,' Nagtegaal explains. 'Through our network of approximately four hundred dealers in the Benelux, we are receiving more and more questions about charging facilities, electricity requirements and safe storage. We want to be able to provide good answers to those questions.' This led to a partnership with Asecos, the European market leader in fire-resistant storage cabinets. The first discussions took place in Germany. The partnership has since expanded to France, Spain, Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and now the Benelux. According to Nagtegaal, Asecos is a good match for STIHL's approach. 'We were looking for a partner with extensive expertise, a strong international organisation and a good reputation for safety. We found that in Asecos.'

Safety has been a priority for years
For Asecos, the partnership is a logical continuation of developments that began several years ago. According to Henk Niewenhuis, Managing Director Benelux, the company has been actively developing solutions for lithium-ion batteries since 2018. 'At that time, there were hardly any regulations governing the storage of these batteries,' he explains. 'In the years that followed, testing methods were developed, and insurers and public authorities began paying increasing attention to safety. We have followed these developments from the beginning and adapted our products accordingly.' Asecos develops and manufactures fire-resistant safety cabinets that have been specifically tested against the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, including a phenomenon known as *thermal runaway*. Various models are available, ranging from compact cabinets for a few batteries to larger units designed for intensive professional use.

Suitable for mixed equipment fleets
The joint solution is not intended exclusively for STIHL batteries. After all, many landscapers also use equipment from other brands when constructing gardens. Nagtegaal explains: 'We have taken this into account. The cabinets have flexible layouts, allowing users to decide for themselves how to make the best use of the available space.' The partnership also goes beyond simply supplying a product. Dealers can advise customers on the most suitable model, while Asecos specialists can join customer visits when needed to answer questions about regulations, safety and practical applications.

One point of contact for users
According to both companies, the added value of the partnership lies in combining products, expertise and local support. The storage solutions will become part of the STIHL product range and will therefore be available through its existing dealer network. 'Users can turn to their trusted STIHL dealer,' says Nagtegaal. 'That makes things much easier than having to find a separate supplier.' Niewenhuis also sees this as an important advantage. 'Our dealers and STIHL's dealers know their customers. We support them with training, knowledge of regulations and technical advice. This means end users receive not only a certified solution, but also the guidance that goes with it.' Through the partnership, both companies aim to respond to a market in which electric equipment is becoming increasingly common and safety is playing an ever more important role. Having a single point of contact should make it easier for professional users to choose the right solutions for charging and storing their batteries.
