Buro Buiten achieves this using products from Adezz
Peter Bouw, founder of Buro Buiten and host of the RTL4 programme Het Goede Buitenleven, selects the partners with whom he realises exclusive gardens based on intuition. After taking a behind-the-scenes look at Adezz, he became convinced of the added value offered by this one-stop shop for green professionals. The landscape architect speaks about the strengths of Adezz's products, as well as his own motivations as an entrepreneur.

Peter Bouw creates outdoor experiences both in the Netherlands and abroad: from complete city gardens to smaller rooftop terraces. In the programme Het Goede Buitenleven, he shares his vision on creating atmospheric outdoor spaces, showcasing some of the most exclusive gardens and outdoor projects. However, it is not necessarily the affluent clientele who seek out Peter Bouw's services after watching the show. 'Interestingly, it's the large middle segment that approaches me for advice after seeing the programme,' says the owner of Buro Buiten. 'Generally speaking, my clients are very conscious about how they want to transform their outdoor environment to enrich their lifestyle in a sustainable way. Increasingly, people in their thirties are already seeing the value of having a well-designed garden.'
A positive outlook on life
Bouw's starting point is always a positive life approach: he aims to upgrade the client's garden in a way that reflects this. "The client's story reveals their outlook on life," explains the landscape architect. 'Every client chooses a place to live for personal reasons. I try to reflect both the quality of the location and the character of the house in the outdoor environment. It's always a rewarding process to discover what a particular place means to a client.'
Personal trends
When asked about current garden trends, Bouw hesitates slightly. 'I find general trends less interesting than the personal story of the client,' he says. 'If you ask clients what makes them happy in daily life and incorporate that into the garden design, you create personal trends and achieve a unique outdoor space. That's what fascinates me about my profession.'
He also emphasizes that there must be harmony between interior and exterior. 'That's an important goal of Het Goede Buitenleven. If you develop a clear vision, you can create the ideal outdoor atmosphere. Based on this vision, even carpenters and earthworkers can fine-tune their work, and the products of my partners and suppliers come into their own.'
The right feeling
Bouw selects his partners based on feeling. 'It's about passion for the craft. What feeling do you give me when you talk about your work or project? You have to truly want to get the best out of your profession.' Flexibility is also crucial. 'As a designer, you constantly deal with evolving insights. You don't know everything in advance; things can change at the last moment. That's why it's important for partners to adapt and be flexible.'
Adezz products
The working methods and products of Adezz fit well with Bouw's philosophy. 'Thanks to the TV programme, I was able to take a behind-the-scenes look at Adezz. They are always looking for ways to optimally serve the market with their product range — whether it's planters, cooking elements, water bowls, fire bowls, retaining walls, stairs, parcel mailboxes, garden sets or edging solutions.' Bouw particularly appreciates the understated, architectural design of Adezz products. 'The colours, dimensions and shapes spark the imagination. For me, tools don't need to stand out. Adezz's products are exactly as they are, and I like that. It's my job to create the right conditions in the garden. And finally, Adezz has a large, professional team that serves the market very well.'
Greenery and paving
Bouw concludes with a clear vision on the balance between greenery and paving in his ideal garden. 'I only use paving where it's necessary — for example, seating areas or the driveway of a house. The rest of the space should be green. Clients who wish to cover most of their garden with paving are better off hiring a paving contractor.' The designer also emphasizes that Buro Buiten handles all planting in-house. 'Planting is both the starting point and the final touch in my projects. Greenery is a special product that we fully control ourselves. Many companies are good at preparing an outdoor space on a technical level, but styling a garden is a separate discipline altogether. That is where our true strength lies, along with our strong affinity for greenery.'
