Allett Mowers is equipping its professional OMNIA line of cylinder mowers with lithium-ion battery systems from Vanguard (Briggs & Stratton). According to the manufacturer, the decision is driven by demand for quieter and lower-emission machines in professional turf management.
The OMNIA system has a modular design and works with a single battery-powered base unit that can be used for various operations, including mowing, scarifying, aerating and brushing. Two power supply options are available: a removable 48V battery with a capacity of 1.5 kWh (Si1.5) and a fixed 48V version with a capacity of 3.5 kWh (Fi3.5). This allows operating time to be tailored to the application. The interchangeable battery enables continued operation with limited downtime, while the larger version offers greater capacity for longer working periods.
Fewer components
According to Allett, the starting point was to match the performance of petrol-powered machines without their disadvantages. Electric drive systems are intended to provide constant torque, stable power delivery and precise speed control, even under varying loads. In addition, the transition results in a simpler machine design with fewer components. This may reduce maintenance requirements and simplify daily operation. Noise reduction and the absence of direct emissions also play a role, particularly in environments with stricter requirements, such as urban green spaces and sports facilities. The battery systems have been developed for commercial use and are supplied with an eight-year warranty.
