New edition includes updated cost standards and adjustments for fluctuating fuel prices

The new editions of the Municipal Green Standards Manual and the Nature, Forest and Landscape Standards Manual have been published. The 2026 editions have been released by Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and contain updated time and cost standards for the management of municipal green spaces, nature areas, forests and landscape elements. A new feature is that users can now adjust the cost standards to reflect current fuel prices.

The Nature, Forest and Landscape Standards Manual has been used for many years by organisations including Staatsbosbeheer, Natuurmonumenten, provincial landscape organisations, municipalities and private landowners. The Dutch government and provincial authorities also use the standards as a basis for determining nature management subsidies. The Municipal Green Standards Manual, first published in 2018, is primarily intended for municipal green managers and contractors.

Updated cost standards

The standards manuals are published every two years. For the 2026 edition, all cost standards have been updated. This enables managers, consultancy firms and contractors to prepare more accurate budgets and cost calculations for management and maintenance work.

Fuel price adjustment

New in this edition is that each cost standard indicates the extent to which it depends on the price of diesel or petrol. According to the editors, this addition was made because fuel prices fluctuated significantly during the first half of 2026. Users can therefore adjust the cost standards themselves when current fuel prices differ substantially from the assumptions used in the standards manual.

Widely used in practice

In addition to land management organisations and municipalities, the standards manuals are widely used by consultancy firms, contractors, educational institutions and research organisations. The publications are intended as practical tools for preparing budgets, cost calculations and management plans.
