In Nijverdal, PUUR Hoveniers, in collaboration with Ontwerpstudio Nova, has created a forest garden that contrasts with the sleek and modern residence. As often seen in their projects, owner Henrik Renting and landscape architect Suzan Renting-Keddeman enriched the project with products from Adezz. We spoke with Suzan to gain insight into the working method of PUUR Hoveniers.

PUUR Hoveniers was founded in 2012 by Henrik Renting. After completing both vocational and higher professional education, he spent several years working in the corporate sector. The combination of outdoor work and entrepreneurship attracted him, leading to the establishment of his own company in 2012. Initially handling everything himself, Renting has since built a full team of skilled horticulturists. He divides his time between clients and office work, overseeing current and upcoming projects while managing orders and coordination from the office. In 2018, PUUR Hoveniers built its own premises, which include office space, a workshop, and storage for all materials and equipment.

From Infrastructure to Greenery

Renting's wife, Suzan Renting-Keddeman, joined PUUR Hoveniers in 2019. She graduated as a landscape architect from Wageningen University in 2011 and subsequently worked in the infrastructure sector for several years. This proved not to be the ideal fit, ultimately leading to burnout. "Henrik used to joke that I could always do the administration for him," she recalls. "At first, I didn't take it seriously, but eventually, PUUR Hoveniers turned out to be the perfect place for me to reintegrate. I was able to take on various tasks at my own pace. Working for PUUR Hoveniers has exceeded my expectations. My plant knowledge and eye for landscape architecture are highly valuable for our projects. Everything comes together nicely."

Dynamic and Decisive

The dynamic environment of a relatively small family business like PUUR Hoveniers suits Renting-Keddeman far better than the culture of a large infrastructure company. "If Henrik and I come up with an idea in the morning, it's often arranged by the afternoon," she explains. "Since we primarily work for private clients, we can satisfy customers more quickly. Our influence is much greater than when working on large contracts for organizations like Rijkswaterstaat. Moreover, with just the two of us making decisions, we are not accountable to anyone else."

Collaboration with Ontwerpstudio Nova

PUUR Hoveniers frequently collaborates with Ontwerpstudio Nova, a specialist in architecture, garden, and interior design based in Hellendoorn. Renting-Keddeman: "This firm has extensive expertise in 3D design, which was also utilized in this project. The design work is done using Vectorworks, and the 3D renderings are created with Lumion. This makes the design more vivid and tangible for the client, resulting in impressive outcomes, as was the case for the client in Nijverdal."

What Is and Isn't Possible

Renting-Keddeman often handles the planting plans herself, which is logical given her background. "I acquired a lot of plant knowledge not only at university but also from years of working part-time at a perennial plant nursery since I was fifteen. In projects, I mainly assess what is and isn't feasible, considering the garden's conditions: light, soil, blooming period, height, color, foliage, evergreen or not. Since we work with living products and nature, adjustments are often necessary. Some clients show idealized borders found on Pinterest. I always point out that these come from true enthusiasts — such a border requires significant care and attention from the garden owner."

Adezz Collection

The client in Nijverdal wanted a new forest garden around the fully transformed house, featuring robust planting. Certain trees were preserved, while others were added in large sizes. According to Renting-Keddeman, there is a beautiful contrast between the forested surroundings and the modern home. The sleek design of the residence is partially reflected in the garden. Ontwerpstudio Nova selected a large water feature and elevated planter from Adezz. The pond serves as an eye-catching feature, says Renting-Keddeman. She praises Adezz's standard collection: "Additionally, this supplier proves valuable in providing custom solutions, as in this forest garden. Adezz has been a reliable partner for years, including in areas like service and delivery times."

Keeping Promises

These values align with PUUR Hoveniers' working method, Renting-Keddeman adds. "We always keep our promises. We deliver what we say we will. And if something isn't possible, we inform the client as soon as possible. Our professionals consistently deliver a very high level of craftsmanship." PUUR Hoveniers operates with a total of eleven FTEs, including flexible staff, and mainly serves the region surrounding its home base in Haarle. "We occasionally receive inquiries from the Veluwe or the Gooi, but we decline those. We wouldn't be able to provide the level of service we consider essential," the landscape architect concludes.
