Figures from Chamber of Commerce data show strong growth and broader use of landscaping activities
The number of landscaping companies in the Netherlands has increased by around 38 percent over the past five years. This is shown in the Structuurrapport Hoveniersbranche 2026, based on an analysis of data from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce Business Register. At the beginning of 2026, the sector counts 16,375 companies. This is the highest number so far.
The figures are based on registrations of companies carrying out landscaping work. Both main activities and additional activities have been taken into account.
Landscaping work is increasingly carried out by companies that are also active in construction. About 7.7 percent of landscaping companies also have construction activities. In addition, companies outside the sector are active in green work. More than 9,000 businesses have registered landscaping as a secondary activity. In total, there are 17,258 establishments with landscaping activities, of which 14,187 are active companies.
Growth mainly in number of companies
The increase is mainly due to the number of registered companies. In 2020, there were 11,585. Five years later, this has risen to nearly 16,000. Not every company is the same size or equally active. The figures mainly reflect the number of providers on paper. For the landscaping sector, this means the market is becoming more crowded. More companies offer similar services, while the amount of work per company may vary.
