Young workers to receive a higher minimum wage from 2027
Employees under the age of 21 will receive a higher minimum wage from 2027. This follows from newly established, definitive youth minimum wage percentages. Young workers will soon earn a larger share of the adult minimum wage. The biggest increase applies to 19-year-olds, whose minimum wage will rise from 60 to 75 percent of the adult minimum wage. Other age groups will also receive a higher percentage.

What is changing?
With this adjustment, the government aims to better reward young people for their work. The new percentages will take effect on 1 January 2027 and have now been definitively established. For employers, this means labour costs for young employees will increase. This also affects sectors that employ many young workers, such as the landscaping industry.
Consequences for daily practice
Landscaping companies regularly work with apprentices, holiday workers and young employees. The higher youth wages may therefore affect overall labour costs. At the same time, higher wages could make the work more attractive to young people. This may help companies recruit staff.
What can you do now?
Companies can prepare by monitoring developments and assessing the possible impact on costs. The new rules will not take effect until 2027. Until then, current wage agreements will remain unchanged.
