Lumosa has installed a new LED lighting system at Stadion Grünfeld, home of FC Rapperswil-Jona in Switzerland.

For the project, the lighting specialist developed a customised solution, installing 100 CS860 Pro LED luminaires on the four existing 40-metre-high floodlight masts. The stadium upgrade followed a four-year development process. According to Lumosa, the new installation provides more than 1,000 lux of horizontal illuminance and over 500 lux of vertical illuminance in all four camera directions. This meets the lighting quality and uniformity requirements for professional football and television broadcasting.
One of the main challenges during the project was limiting light nuisance for the surrounding area. The nearest homes are located just 55 metres from the stadium. To reduce light spill, Lumosa developed special reflective light shields and optimised the reflectors. More than 100 lighting simulations were used to further refine the light distribution. According to Lumosa, illuminance on the façades of the nearest homes is less than 7 lux. This keeps the installation well below the agreed limit of 10 lux. The stadium lighting is controlled via LumosaTouch. This system allows the lighting to be easily adjusted for different uses, such as training sessions, matches and maintenance work.
