Jens Reeuwijk Bloembollen is the new content partner of Vakblad Stad + Groen. The company focuses on flower bulbs, herb mixtures and complete concepts, mainly for municipalities, government organisations and green contractors. The focus is increasingly shifting from traditional flower bulb strips towards natural plantings with a long flowering period.

For owner Jens Reeuwijk, the reach among this target group was the main reason to join Stad + Groen. 'I notice that many of my clients read the trade magazine. After an earlier article, I also received some great responses. Then you know you are reaching the right people.'

From spring bulbs to a long flowering season

Through the content partnership, Reeuwijk mainly wants to show that flower bulbs in public spaces can be used for more than just adding colour in spring. His company combines spring and summer bulbs with herb mixtures to extend the flowering period as much as possible. According to him, demand for more natural mixtures is increasing. 'We see a clear shift from just creating an attractive image to plantings that also contribute to bees and other insects. That is why we are increasingly working with natural bulbs and native herb mixtures.'

We want to apply flower bulbs in a more natural way

One example is the combination of old-fashioned bulbs and herbs. The approach takes into account factors such as sandy, clay and peat soils. The company manages the entire process, from advice and supply to installation, and also provides clients with maintenance advice. According to Reeuwijk, this is essential to maintain the desired appearance over the longer term.

No strict strip, but natural patches

One development with which Reeuwijk wants to distinguish himself is the wild planting machine. This adapted machine does not plant the same number of bulbs per square metre everywhere, but continuously varies the planting density. This creates groups and open spaces instead of a strict flower bulb strip. 'On larger areas, such as parks, estates or cemeteries, you do not always want to see a designed strip. By using different planting densities, you create patches in the field. When the bulbs emerge, it looks much more as if they are growing there naturally.'

For Reeuwijk, the combination of practical experience and innovation is especially important. 'I try to come up with something new every year.
