Jury recognises Dutch company for good governance, social responsibility and commitment to employees
Dutch family-owned company Vebego has won the 'IMD Global Family Business Award 2026'. The company, which is also active in green space management, received the international award in recognition of its corporate governance, commitment to employees and social responsibility.
The award was announced on 15 October by the Swiss business school IMD. According to the jury, Vebego demonstrates how a family business can combine commercial success with sustainability and social responsibility. Its commitment to employees and its efforts to provide employment opportunities for people facing barriers to entering the labour market were particularly important factors in the assessment.
From cleaning company to green space services provider
Vebego was founded in Heerlen in 1943 as a cleaning company. Today, the family-owned business employs almost 40,000 people and operates in cleaning, healthcare, facility services and green space management. Creating opportunities for people who face difficulties finding employment is an important part of the company's business strategy.

A tribute to employees
CEO Ton Goedmakers, who represents the third generation of the family business, sees the award primarily as recognition of the company's employees. 'Above all, it is recognition for our almost 40,000 colleagues. It is a tribute to the incredible work they do every day with care and kindness, often behind the scenes.'
