Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Barenbrug is focusing on turf solutions that offer greater resistance to intensive use and faster recovery. According to the seed producer, the demands placed on playing surfaces are increasing due to higher match intensity, limited recovery time and varying climatic conditions. The upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, requires stable and consistent pitch quality, according to the company.

The company refers to previous international tournaments where different turf solutions were applied. During the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, SOS technology was used to quickly restore damaged pitches, while RPR technology was deployed at several European Championships and World Cups between 2012 and 2024 to provide additional strength and stability under heavy use.

For the 2026 World Cup, the focus is on new applications aimed at wear tolerance and recovery capacity. In Toronto, among other locations, turf components are being used that, according to Barenbrug, help maintain consistent playability throughout the tournament, even under intensive use. These are combined with other technologies to keep the playing surface stable.

Pressure on playing surfaces is increasing due to the multifunctional use of stadiums and the wide range of weather conditions across host cities. As a result, demand is growing for turf that is not only immediately playable but also delivers long-term performance and rapid recovery. Barenbrug states that it will continue investing in the development of grass species and mixtures tailored to these conditions.
