New training aims to increase the number of available auditors
PEFC International has developed a new training programme for auditors who want to assess construction and infrastructure projects on responsibly sourced wood and other forest- and tree-based materials. With the so-called Project Sourcing certification, not only a product or supplier, but the material procurement within an entire project can be certified.

The Project Sourcing standard is based on the existing PEFC Chain of Custody system. Certification bodies that are already accredited for this system therefore do not need a separate accreditation. However, auditors must complete additional training and pass a knowledge test before they can carry out Project Sourcing audits.

Six modules and a knowledge test
PEFC International has developed a free online training programme for this purpose. It consists of six e-learning modules and a final knowledge test. After registration, participants have sixty days to complete the training. Those who pass receive a certificate and are qualified to carry out Project Sourcing audits.
The training is initially intended for auditors who are already qualified for PEFC Chain of Custody. Professionals with experience in sustainability assessments of buildings can also participate under certain conditions. With this, PEFC aims to make use of existing knowledge from the construction and sustainability sectors.

Relevant for public projects
Project Sourcing can be used for construction and infrastructure projects in which wood and other forest- and tree-based materials are applied. It makes it possible to demonstrate that these materials have been purchased according to PEFC requirements.
In addition to the training, PEFC International has developed tools for certification bodies, including factsheets and information materials. The new training programme is available through the PEFC Knowledge Academy.
